Eriol created 2 magic guardians, his own Keroberos & Yue's personal versions. Although they keep some resemblance with them, they have their opposite personalities and attributes (i.e, Yue is yin and Ruby is yang; Kero is yang and Suppi is yin).

As a weird detail, I'm gonna insist in their name meaning. The last part of their names is self-explainatory. The first part is a mineral's name. Read what I found about it:

"Spinel occurs in almost every color, and creates gems of all colors. It is not a well known gem, although a good specimen can attain a very high price. Bright red Spinel, known as Ruby Spinel, is the most valuable Spinel. In the past, there was no distinction between Ruby and Ruby Spinel, as they look identical and are found in the same localities. Nowadays, distinctions can be made through hardness and x-ray tests. Many famous old 'Rubies' were found to be Spinel. The enormous 'Ruby' that forms the centerpiece of the royal crown of Great Britain (the Black Prince's Ruby) was recently discovered to be a Spinel."

I swear, that can't be a coincidence. CLAMP always does a great research on things for their mangas (remember the car names in Magic Knight Rayearth?). And the thing about the English imperial crown cracks me up. Look at the name of the gem. They both have a lot of black in their color schemes. And of course, Eriol is British, loves black and his ceremonial robe is mainly black.
